Services
There has to be a more detailed and effective look at the future needs of the communities in this area. There are some 800 houses to be built in Wincanton alone, with the resulting pressure on schools, refuse collection, medical care, and other essential services. Answers have to be in position before there is collapse through overloading of the present provisions. There is more to life than cycle tracks and roundabouts painted on the road. We also have to look at the future development of villages with the parish councils. A blanket ban on all development, enforced by central government is not the way forward for the well being of living productive communities.
Choices will have to be made : -
Do we really need an office for the South West in Brussells at vast cost to Council Tax payers, but no income? Or would the money be better spent on retaining Community Education, which generates £1.7M in income each year.
Which is more important the provision of cycle tracks that have no beginning or end or the provision of essential services like the gritting of roads in icy conditions.
In the proposals for the future of transport in the South West, Wincanton is designated as a bus interchange point on the A303. We look forward to the provision of more than a single bus shelter in the town centre.
We would actively support the introduction of a "Bus Pass" that can be used throughout the South West.
